What technology is this?
The embedded systems we use are so-called single board computers. The single board computer is a complete computer built on a single circuit board. The design is centered on a single microprocessor with RAM, I/O and all features needed to be a functional computer system.

Concrete examples are Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Embedded, Windows XP Embedded POS, Windows CE, Microsoft DOS, many Linux varieties (e.g. Ubuntu) and custom built Embedded Linux distributions.
